Symphony Classroom Dongle for Chromebook/Chromebox User Guide

Please note: The following content is for customers who already have a MC Dongle. If you don't have an MC Dongle it is no longer in production. If you have any questions or concerns, contact support@merlyn.org

This document provides instructions for setting up the Symphony Classroom dongle to support Chromebook/box implementations.

Note: Each dongle is paired with a unique Symphony Classroom, and teachers sharing the Symphony Classroom can share the dongle, but teachers moving from room to room with different Symphony Classrooms will need to leave the dongle in each room with the associated Symphony Classroom.

 

Instructions on Pairing Dongle to Symphony

  1. Go to teacher.merlyn.org, and make sure laptop is unpaired/not connected to Symphony Classroom. (Note: this may require unplugging the HDMI cable, too)                                                           Dongle1.jpg
  2. Insert the dongle into Laptop (RED - STATIC LIGHT) Figure 1.0.Using the AirMouse, go to the Settings on the Symphony Classroom                                                                                              Dongle2.jpg
  3. Select “Dongle Settings” on Settings window > Click “Pair Dongle.”
  4. Follow instructions on screen to pair dongle to Symphony
  5. Page should state “Pairing Dongle,” then “Dongle Paired.” once complete
  6. (GREEN – STATIC). (Note: Pairing can take up to 30 seconds)

Now user can link laptop/computer to Symphony Classroom by entering the pairing code or connecting the HDMI cable.


Chromebook Instructions

  1. Confirm that Chromebook is connected to one of the HDMI ports on the Symphony Classroom
  2. Chromebook should be in Extended mode for Magic Pairing to work over HDMI. If you wish to mirror your Chromebook screen, go to teacher.merlyn.org and manually enter the pairing code
  3. Switch to the HDMI where Chromebook is connected on Symphony Classroom.
  4. If AirMouse does not function, move mouse or click on-screen laptop mousepad; this should trigger the Airmouse to function across all screens.


Switching Between Computers

  1. If using the same Symphony Classroom, simply unplug the dongle, and plug into a different computer.
  2. User will see a blue light, then green light will appear within 30 seconds after plugged in.

 


Switching between Symphony Classroom

  • Go to teacher.merlyn.org, and make sure laptop is unpaired/not connected to Symphony Classroom (Note: this may require unplugging the HDMI cable, too)
  • Insert the dongle into Laptop.
  • Using the AirMouse, go to the Settings on the Symphony Classroom.
  • Select “Dongle Settings” on Settings window > Click “Pair Dongle.”
  • Press the pair button on the dongle for four seconds and follow above Pairing Instructions.

 


Instructions on Unpairing Dongle to Symphony Classroom

  1. Go to teacher.merlyn.org , and unpair the laptop by clicking “unpair” button. (Note: this may require unplugging the HDMI cable, too)
  2. Using the AirMouse, go to the Settings on the Symphony Classroom.
  3. Go to “Dongle Settings” on Settings Window >Click “Unpair Dongle” page > Click “Unpair” button. Dongle light should illuminate a (BLUE – STATIC LIGHT) 

 

Resetting the Dongle

  1. If dongle is still paired to a Symphony Classroom, simply plug the dongle into a computer
  2. Hold the dongle pair button for 4 seconds then release (reset will occur)
