Setting up the Symphony Classroom device

If you have access to the teachers’ accounts (the school-issued Google/Microsoft accounts) on the Teacher portal, sign in and download the Merlyn Mind Chrome or Edge browser Extension and Merlyn Mind Desktop App from the Downloads page.

To get started, make sure the Symphony Classroom is connected to an output display (TV, projector, interactive display) and the teacher's computer is plugged in to HDMI 1 on the unit.

Turn on the Symphony Classroom. If you’re turning it on for the first time, complete the onboarding process. The Symphony Classroom may restart during this process to install the latest software.

Most devices will pair with Symphony Classroom, but if not, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to The Symphony Classroom home screen by pressing the home button on your remote.  You should see a 4-digit pairing code.
    • If you don’t see a code, you can say “Hey Merlyn, pair my computer” to bring it up.
  2. Type this code into the pairing screen on Teacher portal.
  3. The computer should now be paired and ready to control via voice and the remote.

How to configure the classroom with different displays

Scenario: Teacher's computer uses “Dual Screens”, “Extended Displays”, and “Mirror Displays”.

To effectively use two different displays, change your computer settings to use the “Extended Display” mode and mark your main classroom display (TV, projector, interactive display, etc.) as the Primary Display.

This will allow you to use one screen as the main classroom display and another for the computer or laptop screen.

Please note

  • The Air Mouse will only work on the Primary Display.
  • If you have a Chrome or Edge browser open on both displays, the result of a voice command will be displayed on whichever browser window is active. Before sending a voice command, please ensure that the active window is showing on the classroom display.
